One of the most important northeastern cities, Natal is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Considered the "City of the Sun", it is surrounded by famous beaches such as Pipa, Ponta Negra and dos Artistas. The capital of Rio Grande do Norte is home to more than 880 thousand people, almost 25% of the state's population. In 2017 alone, Natal Airport handled 2,4 million people who visited or departed the city. Among the most famous and visited postcards of the city are the Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, Morro do Careca and the Newton Navarro Bridge (Ponte Estaiada).

 

1. City Tour

Several tourism companies offer guided tours of the city for R$50 per person. In the itinerary, you will find Forte dos Reis Magos, the Yacht Club, the old jail and churches in the old center.

2. Pipa Beach

80km south of Natal, Pipa beach is one of the most visited. The region is part of Tibau do Sul, and offers transparent waters in front of the famous cliffs. Frequent visitors, dolphins are also easily spotted in Baía dos Golfinhos.

3. Ponta Negra Beach

With calm waters, the beach has a good structure with tents and is located in front of the Ponta Negra neighborhood. Anyone passing by has a view of Morro do Careca, one of the most famous Christmas postcards.

4. Redinha Beach

Famous among locals and not very popular among tourists, the beach has a good shopping structure and is very close to the Newton Navarro bridge (Ponte Estaiada). The region is notable for being the place where the Potengi River flows into the sea.

5. São Miguel do Gostoso Beach

São Miguel do Gostoso is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, located 102 kilometers from the state capital, Natal. It is a small fishing village with around 10 thousand inhabitants where the calm and simplicity of a small town on the northeast coast is preserved. One of the main attractions of São Miguel do Gostoso are the beautiful beaches, clean and almost deserted. On the municipality's beaches there are no kiosks or restaurants close to the sea, leaving space free for walking, sports, kiteboarding and windsurfing. The main beaches are Ponta do Santo Cristo, Praia do Cardeiro and Praia da Xepa.

6. Genipabu Beach

An oasis in Rio Grande do Norte, the region has a natural ecological landscape and freshwater lagoons. Genipabu Lagoon is another spot that you can’t miss out on. There, visitors can take rides on dromedaries, making the trip even more exotic.

7. Camurupim Beach

One of the last before Pipa, Camurupim beach has natural pools and a cove that are great for Stand Up Paddleboarding and a peaceful swim. The coral barrier ensures that the waves break calmly on the sand.

8. Cotovelo Beach

The huts on Cotovelo beach have swimming pools and facilities to serve families passing through Parnamirim, 24 km from the center of Natal. Despite being close to Ponta Negra, the region is less popular. Near the beach you can also visit the Largest Cashew Tree in the World.

9. Artists Beach

Located between Praia do Meio and Praia da Areia Preta, Praia dos Artistas is very popular as it is less than 5 minutes from the city center. In the region, tourists can find the Natal Crafts Center, the largest in the city of Rio Grande do Norte.

10. Reis Magos Fort

A historic building located in the city of Natal, Forte dos Reis Magos received its name because its construction began on January 06, 1958, Kings Day according to the Catholic calendar.

11. Dunas do Rosado

Located in the municipality of Porto do Mangue, 250 km from the capital Natal, the dunes are an environmental protection area and are considered the largest set of dunes in the state with an extension of 10km². The varied color tones of the sand and the sequence of mountains enchant tourists. The landscape has already served as a setting for the filming of several soap operas and music videos.

12. Zé dos Montes Castle

Considered a postcard of the municipality of Sítio Novo (RN), Castelo Zé dos Montes was built by a countryman called José Antônio with stone and lime and took more than 20 years to complete. The castle has a medieval Islamic style, with Muslim towers pointing upwards. It is an attraction that surprises and delights tourists with its peculiarity.
